MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621047955 A) filed by Sage University on April 15, 2026, for Apparatus And Method For Forensic Fingerprint Acquisition With Tamper-Evident Chain-Of-Custody Recording.

Inventors include Ms. Sakshi Agrawal; Dr. Prashant Jain; Prof. Ankita Thakur; Ritesh Chopade; and Abhishek Pal.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to forensic fingerprint acquisition with tamper-evident chain-of-custody recording. The apparatus (102) includes a beam- splitting optical assembly (104) that directs identical optical images from an evidence surface to a primary image sensor (106) and a verification image sensor (108) through independent optical paths. A hardware security processor (110) with a secure element (112) stores a device-unique private cryptographic key. A hardware processor (116) receives image data from both sensors, computes cryptographic hashes of each image, and transmits an evidence package data structure to the hardware security processor (110) to obtain an elliptic curve digital signature binding the image data to the evidence package. The signed evidence package, including image data and the digital signature, is written to a first non-volatile storage device (114) with write-blocking circuitry and a second non-volatile storage device (118), enabling detection of any post-acquisition modification through signature validation.
