MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621069632 A) filed by Sage University on June 03, 2026, for Apparatus And Method For Autonomous Navigation In Pedestrian Environments.

Inventors include Dr. Prashant Jain; Ms. Sakshi Agrawal; Dr. Madhvi Singh Bhanwar; Prof. Snehlata Mishra; Tejas Dutta; and Mahavir Singh.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT An apparatus and a method for autonomous navigation in pedestrian environments incorporates a hardware watchdog circuit (102) powered by an independent power supply, monitoring periodic pulse signals and asserting a second emergency stop signal upon cessation of the periodic pulse signal from the primary navigation microcontroller (106) or the safety microcontroller (108). The hardware watchdog circuit (102) verifies cessation of rotation of drive motors (118) by monitoring a back-EMF signal after assertion of the second emergency stop signal. The safety microcontroller (108), electrically isolated from the primary navigation microcontroller (106), detects obstacles based on sensor data from a stereo camera pair (112) and scanning LiDAR sensor (114) and asserts a first emergency stop signal. A motor power interruption circuit (116) opens normally-closed contact elements upon receiving the first emergency stop signal or the second emergency stop signal through respective independent electrical paths to halt the drive motors (118).
