MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541091993 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras Iit Madras on September 25, 2025, for Apparatus And Computer-Implemented Method For Evaluating Distributed Algorithms Or Protocols.

Inventors include John Augustine; and Pappu Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: An apparatus and computer-implemented method are disclosed for evaluating distributed algorithms or protocols within a common execution framework. The apparatus constructs a distributed algorithm or protocol using a plurality of configurable protocol components, such as leader-election, proposal, voting, commit, and state- replication components. The constructed distributed algorithm or protocol is executed among a plurality of nodes within a distributed-system execution environment, which supports configurable network topologies and communication models across local multi-process and distributed multi-machine environments. Using this apparatus, we can simulate the algorithm with or without faults, and in the case of algorithms where faults are needed, one or more fault behaviors, including crash faults and Byzantine faults, are selectively applied to one or more nodes during execution. Correctness information associated with the execution is determined independently of performance evaluation. Evaluation information indicative of throughput, latency, resource utilization, and fault detection under the applied fault behaviors is generated alongside reproducible execution artifacts.
