Abstract: ### ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a polyherbal pharmaceutical composition in the form of polymeric microbeads for the management of obesity. The invention comprises incorporating a marketed polyherbal formulation into a sodium alginate polymeric matrix followed by ionic gelation using calcium chloride to obtain polyherbal microbeads. In an embodiment, the microbeads comprise about 2% w/v of the polyherbal formulation incorporated into about 1.75% w/v sodium alginate and cross-linked using about 2% w/v calcium chloride. The prepared microbeads are hardened, washed and dried to obtain substantially spherical microbeads having a particle size in the range of approximately 200–300 µm. The polyherbal formulation contains phenolic, flavonoid and tannin constituents and demonstrates anti-obesity activity. The formulation and its microbead form are evaluated for their effects on body weight, body mass index, lean mass index, serum lipid profile, blood glucose and adipose tissue architecture in experimental obesity models. The microbead formulation provides a controlled-release herbal delivery system and exhibits anti-obesity activity, thereby providing a potential pharmaceutical approach for improving the delivery and therapeutic performance of polyherbal formulations in obesity management.
