The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: An antimicrobial plant-derived composition and preparation method thereof are provided to inhibit the growth of coagulase-negative, Gram-positive Staphylococcus hominis bacteria using bioactive extracts from the renewable botanical source Solanum torvum. The composition comprises an effective concentration of 100 mg/mL of aqueous leaf and flower extracts of Solanum torvum, which contain confirmed therapeutic quantities of flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, and saponins, while being free of tannins and triterpenoids. The leaf extract is obtained via an overnight petroleum ether defatting step followed by a 48-hour room temperature aqueous extraction, while the flower extract is obtained via a 2-hour water bath decoction at 100°C, with both solutions filtered under vacuum and concentrated using a rotary evaporator. The resulting thick extracts exhibit strong, dose-dependent zones of inhibition against Staphylococcus hominis measuring 22 mm for the leaf sample and 21 mm for the flower sample via agar well diffusion. The synergistic interaction between the extracted flavonoids and alkaloids establishes a multi-target mechanism that simultaneously disrupts bacterial cell wall integrity and nucleic acid production. This herbal suspension is highly compatible with diverse pharmaceutical vehicles, allowing formulation into topical gels, creams, lotions, nano-emulsions, and aerosolized delivery systems to combat antibiotic-resistant strains and control body odor with low systemic toxicity.
