MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641115861 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 28, 2026, for Anchored Capacity-Referenced Crowd Load Interrogation Apparatus With Surge Discrimination And Rate-Limited Relief Actuation.
Inventors include Dr. Ganesh Shamrao Khekare; and Shlokkumar Goenka.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention provides a cyber-physical crowd-load interrogation and controlled barrier-relief apparatus for monitoring and managing mechanical loading imposed on temporary barrier structures during mass gatherings. The apparatus includes vertically separated shear-web load cell groups and a distributed piezoresistive taxel rail array configured to determine resultant crowd loading, spatial load distribution, and line-of-action characteristics. An inter-bay time-synchronization bus enables coordinated sensing across adjacent barrier bays for identifying propagation of loading disturbances and distinguishing surge conditions from substantially quasi-static loading. An onboard proof-load actuator and displacement and tilt transduction arrangement establish an installation-specific anchored capacity before crowd admission. A force-duration dose accumulator evaluates sustained loading, while a release comparator evaluates loading, surge, spatial correlation, and capacity- utilization conditions. Upon a release condition, a servo-throttled hydraulic damper and stepper-driven relief aperture provide controlled, rate-limited mechanical relief. A passive slip mechanism further provides mechanical yielding during electronic or power failure.
