Abstract: Chronic respiratory diseases represent a significant global health burden, with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) being one of the leading causes of respiratory morbidity. Early detection of COPD is essential for preventing disease progression and improving patient outcomes. However, commonly-used-diagnostic methods such as spirom-etry,--re-quire-specialized clinical equipment and trained personnel, which may not be readily available in rural or resource-limited healthcare settings and can also be costly. This study proposes the design of a low-cost, portable breath biomarker detector for the early screening of COPD. The concept is based on the analysis of exhaled breath, which contains gases and volatile compounds that reflect physiological changes occurring in the lungs. In COPD patients, biomarkers such as nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, and specific volatile organic compounds may be present in abnormal concentrations due to airway inflammation and lung tissue damage. The proposed device comprises a breath collection mouthpiece, a sensor chamber containing gas sensors, a signal processing unit, and a digital display for output. When a user exhales into the device, the sensors detect biomarker levels, and the processed signals provide a preliminary indication of potential respiratory abnormalities. This portable screening approach may facilitate early identification of COPD and promote timely medical evaluation.
