Abstract: A system and method for the analysis and control of transport of a Jeffrey fluid through a porous medium under magnetohydrodynamic effects is disclosed. The system comprises a parameter acquisition subsystem that obtains parameters characterizing the Jeffrey fluid, including its ratio of relaxation to retardation times, the permeability of the porous medium, the electrical conductivity of the fluid, and the strength of an applied magnetic field; and a modelling and computation subsystem that solves governing conservation equations incorporating a Jeffrey constitutive relation, a porous-medium resistance term, and a magnetohydrodynamic body-force term to predict the transport, employing reduced-order or surrogate models for real-time computation. A control subsystem regulates an operating parameter, notably the applied magnetic field strength, in a closed loop to achieve a desired transport outcome, and the governing equations may be inverted to determine the required field. Applications include hydrocarbon recovery, biomedical fluid transport, microfluidic devices, and filtration apparatus.
