Inventors include Rishi Baid; and Arham Baid.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses an umbilical catheter assembly (10) and a peel-away introducer (40) for safe and atraumatic neonatal umbilical catheterization. The umbilical catheter assembly comprises a single-lumen or multi-lumen catheter (12) having a proximal section (12c) formed of transparent material for real-time visualization of blood flow, air bubbles and clots, and a distal section (12b) partly or completely formed of a radio-opaque material and provided with depth markings (20), both sections being joined by a smooth, kink-resistant bonded joint (12d), along with a hub assembly (14) at the proximal end. The peel-away introducer (40) comprises a dilator (42) with a selectable open-tip (50a) or closed-tip (50b) configuration and a splittable sheath (46) having ergonomic wings (48), predefined fracture planes (60) and a minimized effective length (52) between the sheath distal tip (58) and the dilator tip (50), thereby enabling precise dilation and guided catheter insertion while reducing vessel trauma, blood loss and infection risk in term and preterm neonates.
