MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641114390 A) filed by Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute Of Engineering And Technology on September 24, 2026, for An Optimized Radial Perforated Fin-Based Latent Heat Storage System For Enhanced Phase Change Material Melting.
Inventor includes Dr. L. Sandeep Raj.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT [0031] In addition, LHSUs experience difficulties due to the low thermal conductivity of PCMs. Even though the use of radial fins helps with improving thermal conduction, it tends to restrict natural convection when the system is positioned vertically. For this reason, researchers in the past proposed the use of perforated fins; however, most of the researches conducted involved circumferential designs rather than radial. For this invention, a numerical model using the enthalpy-porosity approach was developed in 3D and validated through the use of experimental data from past literature works. Post-validation, several radial perforated designs were analyzed in order to study how they affected the melting phenomenon. It was discovered that using small and fewer perforations allowed for better distribution between conduction and convection. From all the tested cases, one which used 1 mm radial perforation and two holes was found to offer the best and most effective melting performance.
