Abstract: The present invention relates to an IoT-enabled method and system for adaptive energy optimization in smart buildings. The invention uses a plurality of IoT sensing nodes installed across building zones to collect real-time data relating to occupancy, energy consumption, environmental conditions, illumination, air quality, and device status. An edge controller validates and processes the data and performs local control of selected building devices. A central energy optimization engine generates zone-wise energy profiles, predicts energy demand, evaluates tariff conditions, peak demand limits, comfort thresholds, and equipment constraints, and generates optimized control commands for lighting, air-conditioning, ventilation, plug loads, pumps, storage systems, and other building utilities. The system further detects abnormal energy consumption, supports occupancy-aware control, enables tariff-aware scheduling, and maintains comfort-aware operation. The invention reduces unnecessary energy consumption, prevents avoidable peak demand, improves building operational efficiency, and provides adaptive energy management suitable for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial smart buildings.
