Abstract: Abstract. IoT-based air pollution monitoring encompasses real-time logging of different gas parameters, which poses challenges including constant monitoring of vehicle emissions and prompt alerting when gases cross the safety limits. The paper proposes an IoT- supported system that evades these challenges with the help of an MQ7 gas sensor for carbon monoxide (CO) detection from exhaust emitted by vehicles. The sensor readings are processed by a NodeMCU (ESP8266) microcontroller, which cross-references the readings against fixed thresholds. If high-level emissions are sensed, multi-level warnings are provided through an LCD display, buzzer, and SMS alerting using a GSM module to the owner of the vehicle. Where there are sustained violations, reports are also sent to regulatory bodies like the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
