MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611045085 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Kanpur on April 08, 2026, for An Ionic Additive, A Perovskite Precursor Composition, And A Method For Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Garg, Ashish; Singh, Anand; Reddy, Nasireddy Seshadri; Gupta, Raju Kumar; Srivastava, Saurabh; and Ranjan, Sudhir.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an ionic additive, a perovskite precursor composition comprising the ionic additive, and a method for synthesizing the ionic additive for regulating nucleation and crystallization behavior of wide-bandgap perovskite materials. The ionic additive comprising a nicotine-derived cation and a bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) anion. In an aspect, a perovskite precursor composition comprises perovskite-forming salts including formamidinium iodide, cesium iodide, lead iodide, and lead bromide dissolved in a solvent system comprising N,N-dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide, wherein the ionic additive is present in an amount ranging from about 0.1 mol% to about 10 mol% relative to the perovskite precursor salts. In another aspect, a method for synthesizing the ionic additive comprises quaternization of nicotine followed by anion exchange with lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide. The precursor composition is deposited and thermally annealed to form crystalline perovskite films suitable for optoelectronic applications.
