Abstract: Senior citizen population and independent patients have increased, raising some very important concerns about the safety and immediate medical assistance. Many patients lead independent lives and may suffer from diseases like heart attacks, fainting, panic attacks, and falls. In most cases, there is no one around to monitor the health of the patient or help him/her during emergency conditions. Traditional medical monitoring system involves manual supervision or regular visits to the hospitals, making it impossible to monitor the patient continuously and results in delayed medical assistance, thus posing health risks to the patient. Additionally, falls are the leading cause of injuries among the senior citizens and many times the patient may be alone for hours. The current solutions fail to provide any real time communication system through which any unusual health condition can be conveyed to the caregivers and family members of the patient immediately. One more drawback with the current solution is that it does not provide an integrated solution for all three functions, i.e., health monitoring, movement tracking and emergency alerts.
