Abstract: This invention generally pertains to an IoT enabled smart fan speed control system, and more specifically pertains to an intelligent embedded system for automatic control of fan speed according to temperature and humidity conditions. The design system consists of an embedded controller, LM35 temperature sensor, DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor, ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, PWM fan speed drive circuit, fan drive, display unit, power supply, and IoT cloud platform. The sensors keep monitoring the surrounding environmental conditions and sending the data to the embedded controller. According to the pre-defined threshold of temperature and humidity, the controller computes the required fan speed and sends the appropriate PWM signals to control the fan speed. The fan speed can be automatically increased with the increase in temperature and decreased with the decrease in temperature. This helps maintain comfortable environmental conditions without any unnecessary manual control. The temperature, humidity, and fan speed details can also be shown using the display unit. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi module allows the system to send data regarding the environment as well as the functioning of the fan to the IoT cloud platform. These data can be stored, tracked, and visualized on the cloud platform to be used for future references. Previous data can be used for identifying patterns in the environment, fan usage, and effective decisions for better energy management. The proposed system uses automatic adjustment of fan speed depending on the environment; thus, unnecessary power consumption can be minimized and effective use of electricity can be achieved. The suggested solution is inexpensive and scalable and can be implemented in a smart home as well as extended for controlling several fans, using other sensors, mobile application, remote control, and even IoT devices. Besides, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) can be included in future versions of the proposed system for analyzing the previous data and intelligent adjustment of fan speed.
