Abstract: ABSTRACT AN INTELLIGENT IoT-BASED RETROFIT PLATFORM FOR CONVENTIONAL REFRIGERATORS The present invention provides an intelligent IoT-based retrofit platform (100) for providing smart monitoring functionality to a conventional refrigerator (170) without replacing the refrigerator. The platform comprises sensing devices (110), an edge processing unit (120), a communication interface (130), a cloud computing environment (140), a monitoring interface (150) and an alert generation module (160). The sensing devices acquire refrigerator-related parameters including temperature, humidity, door activity and energy consumption. The edge processing unit locally processes the acquired information and validates operating conditions to identify abnormal events before selectively communicating processed information and event data to the cloud computing environment. The cloud environment stores historical information and provides remote visualization through a monitoring interface. The alert generation module generates notifications upon detection of predefined abnormal conditions. Local storage permits continued data acquisition during temporary communication interruption and subsequent synchronization upon restoration of communication. The retrofit architecture provides intelligent monitoring and connectivity to an existing refrigerator without replacement of its primary refrigeration system.
