MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641085375 A) filed by Sri Eshwar College Of Engineering on July 11, 2026, for An Intelligent Hybrid Road Surface Energy Harvesting And Self-Powered Smart Infrastructure System.

Inventors include Ms. Minu Balakrishnan; Dr. H. Anandakumar; Dr. R. Babitha Lincy; and Mrs. K. Gowthami.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an intelligent hybrid road surface energy harvesting and self-powered smart infrastructure system that enables autonomous energy generation and management for transportation infrastructure. The system incorporates multiple complementary energy harvesting technologies, including piezoelectric, solar photovoltaic, thermoelectric, and electromagnetic vibration harvesting, to maximize energy extraction from diverse road and environmental conditions. An integrated power conditioning unit combines and regulates the harvested energy before transferring it to an energy storage subsystem. A central intelligent energy management module acquires real-time information from traffic, environmental, and electrical sensors to evaluate energy availability, predict infrastructure demand, and dynamically control energy allocation and load prioritization. The stored energy is supplied to smart infrastructure components including roadway lighting, traffic management devices, monitoring sensors, communication units, and emergency safety systems, enabling reliable self-powered operation with minimal dependence on external power sources. The proposed architecture provides adaptive energy utilization, improved operational reliability, reduced maintenance requirements, and enhanced scalability for smart transportation infrastructure. The coordinated integration of hybrid energy harvesting, intelligent energy management, and autonomous infrastructure operation provides an efficient framework for sustainable road networks and next-generation smart city applications.
