Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent adaptive crutch system designed for biomechanical assistance, incorporating advanced materials and smart sensing technologies. The primary frame is constructed from AA7075-type aluminium alloy, providing robust support for the axillary cushion and enabling compact storage through a multi-stage hinge assembly. A magnetorheological damper cartridge at the lower extremity offers variable shock absorption, regulated by closed-loop PWM control with a rapid response time of 15 ms. Embedded sensors, including an inertial measurement unit, force-sensitive resistor, resistive pressure array, and photoplethysmography sensor, supply biomechanical data to an ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller. This microcontroller utilises a neural-network classifier for real-time gait phase segmentation, symmetry assessment, and stumble prediction. Haptic biofeedback is provided via vibration motors integrated in the handgrip, alerting the user to gait irregularities or increased stumble probability. The system also features piezoelectric elements within the damper for energy harvesting, with a dedicated power management subsystem storing the generated electricity in a lithium-polymer cell. Telemetry and remote monitoring are facilitated through a Bluetooth Low Energy module, enabling adaptive data-rate transmission and efficient wake-up times. Collectively, this invention offers enhanced mobility, safety, and energy efficiency for users requiring biomechanical support.
