Abstract: ABSTRACT AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SODIUM BICARBONATE FROM ELECTROLYTIC BRINE MINERALIZATION The present invention relates to an integrated system and method for producing sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) from saline or hypersaline brine and carbon dioxide. The system comprises an electrochemical module configured to electrolyze brine to generate sodium hydroxide (NaOH), hydrogen gas (H2), and chlorine gas (Cl2). The generated NaOH is reacted with carbon dioxide to produce sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), while the generated H2 and Cl2 are internally utilized to synthesize hydrochloric acid (HCl) in situ. The sodium carbonate is subsequently reacted with the in situ-generated HCl under controlled pH and temperature conditions to produce sodium bicarbonate while minimizing carbon dioxide loss. The system further comprises crystallization and solid-liquid separation units for recovering sodium bicarbonate and a recycling loop for returning sodium chloride to the electrochemical module, thereby establishing a circular carbon utilization process without requiring externally supplied hydrochloric acid. The system may be powered wholly or partially by renewable energy and is suitable for carbon capture and utilization, desalination brine valorization, green chemical manufacturing, and circular economy applications.
