Abstract: An integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) shelter system and method are disclosed for simultaneous electric-vehicle (EV) charging, cabin pre-cooling and freshwater generation. A PV shelter shades and charges an EV parked beneath it, while a natural-convection air passage beneath the PV modules recovers waste heat, cooling the modules and improving conversion efficiency. The recovered heat is buffered in a switchable thermal-energy storage arrangement comprising an air-to-phase-change- material heat exchanger and a plate heat exchanger, selected according to whether the heat input is intermittent or steady, extending system operation into non-sunshine periods. The stored heat is supplied to the hot side of a membrane distillation unit, which generates freshwater from ambient feed water across a hydrophobic membrane. The system thereby provides EV-charging shade, cabin soak-temperature reduction, PV efficiency preservation and freshwater production from a single shared installation and thermal architecture.
