Abstract: ABSTRACT AN INTEGRATED DUAL-MODE CARBON SEQUESTRATION AND SOIL RESTORATION SYSTEM AND METHOD The present invention provides an integrated system and method for carbon sequestration and soil restoration in arid, semi-arid, saline, and other degraded environments. The method comprises alkaline conditioning of soil using one or more hydroxides, carbonates, oxides, industrial alkaline materials, or combinations thereof; irrigation of the conditioned soil with carbon dioxide-enriched water; and inoculation with a live algal inoculum comprising nitrogen-fixing algae, non-nitrogen-fixing algae, or combinations thereof, optionally supplemented with beneficial microorganisms, to establish biological soil crusts. The inoculum may further comprise biodegradable carriers, water-retentive polymers, soil-binding agents, biochar, compost, or combinations thereof. The integrated treatment promotes in situ inorganic carbon sequestration through carbonate formation and biological carbon sequestration through algal biomass and biological soil crust development, while improving soil stability, moisture retention, biological activity, and ecological restoration. Monitoring may be performed using sensors, remote sensing, periodic soil sampling, or combinations thereof to support carbon accounting, environmental reporting, and verification applications.
