MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631111282 A) filed by Nagaland University on September 16, 2026, for An Insect Trap Device Having A Hollow Body With Inwardly Slanted Entry Apertures.

Inventors include Dr. Sabbithi Pavan; and Ms. Toty Gadi.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to insect trapping devices, particularly fruit-fly traps, and provides a hollow body (10) having one or more entry apertures (12) formed through its wall in an inwardly slanted orientation relative to the outer surface (28), thereby defining oblique passages (24, 26) leading into an internal cavity (30). Compared with conventional direct-entry traps, the oblique inward passage arrangement may improve guided entry and reduce direct escape alignment, and permits simple fabrication in natural or manufactured bodies including bottle-gourd shells, bamboo culms, glass, plastic, or printed structures. In embodiments, a removable closure (14), support member (16), and attractant (18) are arranged within the cavity, and optional auxiliary apertures (32), suspension holes (36), suspension member (22), and mounting stake (34) facilitate baiting, ventilation, servicing, and field deployment. The device is principally useful for trapping and controlling fruit flies in orchards and agricultural settings.
