Abstract: A pharmaceutical taste masking coating is disclosed for orally administered drug particles, granules, pellets, mini tablets, and multiparticulates. The coated unit includes a drug containing core, an inner seal layer, a functional saliva resistant barrier layer, a pore regulating component, and an outer surface conditioning layer. The coating reduces release of unpleasant tasting active ingredient during oral residence while enabling drug liberation in gastrointestinal media. The system supports aqueous processing, improved handling, flexible dosage form integration, and patient acceptable administration of bitter or irritating drugs.
