MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611089496 A) filed by Chitkara University on July 22, 2026, for An Inhaler Cartridge With Vaccine-Loaded Electrospun Nanofiber Mesh Fragments.

Inventors include Dr. Sonia Dhiman; Dr. Shareen Singh; and Dr. Thakur Gurjeet Singh.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention a dry-powder inhaler cartridge (100) is disclosed for pulmonary delivery of a vaccine antigen (400) and a mucosal adjuvant (500). The cartridge body (110) defines a sealed dose chamber (120), an air inlet (130), an air outlet (140), an airflow distributor (150), and a deagglomeration baffle (160). Electrospun nanofiber mesh fragments (200) positioned within the dose chamber (120) comprise electrospun fibers (300), a stabilizing excipient (600), and a dry polymeric matrix that protects antigen structure during storage. The fragments (200) have a geometric size and aerodynamic diameter permitting deep-lung deposition after patient actuation (900). A moisture-scavenging compartment (180), separated from the dose chamber (120) by a moisture-permeable membrane (181), limits humidity exposure. Upon contact with lung fluid, the fragments (200) hydrate and release the vaccine antigen (400) and mucosal adjuvant (500). The cartridge (100) thereby provides a storage-stable, single-dose, non-liquid pulmonary vaccine presentation with reproducible aerosolization and coordinated mucosal release.
