MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113564 A) filed by Andhra University on September 22, 2026, for An Infection-Responsive Multilayer Smart Wound Dressing System For Controlled Antimicrobial Release.
Inventors include Prof. M. V. V. Chandana Lakshmi; and Dwarapureddy Anupama Kavya Priya.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a multilayer smart wound dressing system (100) for selective antimicrobial delivery, infection management, and enhanced wound healing applications associated with chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers, burns, traumatic injuries, and post-surgical wound management. The infection-responsive multilayer smart wound dressing system (100) comprises an outer protective layer (102), an infection-responsive intermediate trigger layer (104), and a wound-contact layer (106). The infection-responsive multilayer smart wound dressing system (100) is capable of achieving cost-effective manufacturing and reduced material- associated toxicity through utilization of biocompatible phytochemical and polymeric constituents. The infection-responsive multilayer smart wound dressing system (100) is configured for selective antimicrobial release during infected wound conditions to reduce unnecessary therapeutic exposure and minimize premature drug diffusion. The infection-responsive multilayer smart wound dressing system (100) comprising encapsulated phytochemical antimicrobial constituents configured for sustained and controlled release.
