MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541082674 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Hyderabad on August 31, 2025, for An In Situ Fiber–hydrogel Composite And Process For Preparation Thereof.
Inventors include Poonam; and Dr. Jyotsnendu Giri.
The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.
Abstract: The present subject matter relates to an in situ fiber–hydrogel composite (102) and a process for preparation thereof. The composite (102) comprises a fibrous component (104) comprising a plurality of microfibers, nanofibers, or a combination thereof, and a hydrogel component (106) comprising a plurality of hydrogel microparticles. The hydrogel component (106) at least partially penetrates, infiltrates, surrounds, occupies inter-fiber spaces of, and/or interpenetrates the fibrous component (104), thereby forming an interpenetrating fiber–hydrogel composite. The fibrous component and the hydrogel component may independently comprise natural, synthetic, semi-synthetic, biodegradable, bioresorbable, or biocompatible polymers and may be configured as single-component, core–shell, multilayer, multicore, or multicomponent structures. The fibrous component (104) and the hydrogel component (106) are deposited sequentially, alternately, successively, or in a predetermined deposition sequence, including by an airbrushing process, to form the composite on a collector or directly at a target site. One or both components may comprise one or more therapeutic or biological agents including active pharmaceutical ingredients, antimicrobial agents, growth factors, proteins, peptides, platelet-rich plasma, platelets, extracellular vesicles, cells, or combinations thereof. The composite is suitable for wound management, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and localized delivery of therapeutic or biological agents. (FIG. 1)
