Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved shaft-sleeve assembly for centrifugal pumps. A conventional threaded portion of a shaft (3) beneath an impeller collar is eliminated to form an unthreaded region (1). A sleeve (2) is mounted on the unthreaded region (1) by an interference press-fit and is prevented from relative rotation by a parallel key (5) seated in an axially extended keyway (6) formed in the shaft. The keyway extends beyond the axial length of the sleeve so that key engagement is maintained over the permissible axial seating range. Chuck nuts (4) are mounted on metric-threaded portions at the shaft ends to provide axial retention. A left-hand thread (LHT) is provided at the Driving End (DE) and a right-hand thread (RHT) at the Non-Driving End (NDE), thereby providing resistance to loosening during operation. The outer surface of the sleeve provides a sealing land for gland packing. During maintenance, the chuck nut is loosened, and the sleeve is withdrawn axially without cutting, heating or specialised removal equipment. The arrangement thereby improves maintainability, reduces downtime and maintenance effort, preserves shaft and impeller integrity, and provides a mechanically secure and corrosion-resistant sleeve mounting arrangement.
