Abstract: AN IMPROVED PROCESS FOR THE EXTRACTION AND PURIFICATION OF SHILAJIT The present invention relates to an improved process for the extraction and purification of Asphaltum punjabianum (Shilajit) extract/resin, comprising a) Washing the Shilajit stone at least three times with hot water and filtering out toxins, microbial load, allergens or the like to obtain Shilajit stone water; b) Co-solvent extraction of Shilajit stone water obtained in step (a) with triphala quath to obtain Shilajit-triphala mixture; and c) Filtering Shilajit-triphala mixture obtained in step (b) and evaporating the liquid to vapour by vacuum evaporation to obtain purified Shilajit extract/resin for the production of Shilajit extract/resin which has significantly high efficacy, safety, palatability and reduced bloating. The present invention also relates to the Shilajit extract/resin produced by the process disclosed herein.
