Abstract: The present invention relates to a menstrual hygiene article comprising a multilayer absorbent structure configured for sequential management of menstrual fluid. The article comprises a body-facing liquid-permeable topsheet, at least one fluid acquisition layer, at least one fluid distribution layer, an absorbent core comprising one or more synthetic and/or natural superabsorbent materials, a smart activation layer comprising at least one microencapsulated hemostatic or coagulation-promoting agent, and a fluid-impermeable barrier layer. The hemostatic or coagulation-promoting agent is configured to remain substantially isolated during an initial stage of menstrual fluid absorption and to be activated only upon satisfaction of one or more predetermined activation conditions, thereby promoting localized immobilization of menstrual fluid within the absorbent structure. The menstrual hygiene article may further be integrated with or detachably secured to an undergarment to improve positional stability during use, thereby enhancing absorbency, leakage protection, wearer comfort, and hygiene.
