MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621098826 A) filed by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute Of on August 14, 2026, for An Improved Electromagnetic Wave-Assisted System For Clarification Of Sugarcane Juice And The Process Thereof.
Inventors include Rohitkumar D. Bhajgotar; Dr. Atul R. Saraf; and Dr. Nikhil A. Baraiya.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: AN IMPROVED ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE-ASSISTED SYSTEM FOR CLARIFICATION OF SUGARCANE JUICE AND THE PROCESS THEREOF An electromagnetic wave-assisted system for ultrafast clarification of sugarcane juice and a process employing the system are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a sugarcane juice storage tank (1), a clarifying agent storage tank (2), a peristaltic pumping system (4) comprising a first pump (4a) and a second pump (4b), a mixing unit (3) at which a sugarcane juice-clarifying agent mixture (3o) is formed, an electromagnetic heating reactor (5) housing an electromagnetic wave generation device (6) comprising a base chamber (6a), a cathode (6b), a filament (6c), a circular anode with resonant cavities (6d), permanent magnets (6e), an antenna (6f) and a waveguide (6g), a confined flow channel reactor (7) positioned within the electromagnetic heating reactor (5), and an outlet (8) at which impurities (8i) are separated from clarified sugarcane juice (8ii). The mixture (3o) is pumped through the confined flow channel reactor (7) and exposed to electromagnetic radiation, causing rapid volumetric dielectric heating that activates the clarifying agent and accelerates flocculation of suspended impurities within a residence time of less than about thirty seconds, in substantial replacement of the time-consuming, combustion-heated open-pan clarification unit employed in conventional jaggery and sugar processing. Two alternative embodiments, namely a pre-mixing (CASE-I) configuration and an in-line mixing (CASE-II) configuration, are disclosed, together with a control unit (9) enabling continuous, automatic or semi-automatic operation.
