MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611090754 A) filed by Chitkara University on July 25, 2026, for An Implantable Photoacoustic Microneedle Patch System For Closed-Loop Sepsis Monitoring And Antibiotic Micro-Dosing.
Inventors include Satyajit Anand; Rajneesh Talwar; and Manvinder Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention an implantable photoacoustic microneedle patch system (100) continuously samples interstitial fluid through sampling microneedles (108) and routes the fluid through an anti-fouling microfluidic network (114) to a multi-analyte sensing cartridge (120) for lactate, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, cytokine, pH and temperature measurements. A multi-wavelength optical pulse source (132), an acoustic transducer array (136) and a photoacoustic processing circuit (138) generate tissue-corrected corroborative signals. A microcontroller (140) executes sensor-fusion and risk-estimation engines (146, 144) using temporal trends, calibration references and signal-quality confidence. When a clinician-authorised threshold and hardware safety conditions are satisfied, a dosing controller (150) actuates a normally closed micropump (156) to transfer a metered antibiotic quantity from a coded reservoir (152) through delivery microneedles (110). Independent fail-safe circuitry (184), reservoir verification (190), occlusion sensing (164), dose-volume verification and encrypted telemetry (168) prevent unsafe delivery and provide post- dose monitoring, alarms and traceable event logging for continuous early-warning operation in clinical settings.
