MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511013257 A) filed by Kumaun University, Nainital on February 16, 2025, for An Herbal Infusion And A Process To Prepare Herbal Infusion.

Inventors include Santosh Kumar Upadhyay; Penny Joshi; Chitra Pandey; Diwan Singh Rawat; and Garima Chand.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to ethanol pre-treated herbal formulation for an herbal infusion and a process to prepare the same, where raw herbal material is cleaned, dried and mechanically shredded into uniform fragments. The process comprises shredding the herbal material into uniform fragments having dimensions in the range of about 0.5 to 2 mm; spraying the shredded raw herbal material with a fine mist of a 70–80% v/v ethanol solution; drying and evaporating the ethanol solution at 35-37°C and subjecting the treated herbal material to a regulated airflow to effectuate rapid evaporation of ethanol solution while retaining solubilized phytoconstituents within the material. The process further includes packing the treated herbal material. Various modes can be used for packing which are quite inert for the treated herbal material.
