Abstract: AN ENERGY-AUTONOMOUS HELMET WITH IOT SENSORS AND LOW-POWER IMPACT ANALYSIS SYSTEM An ANSI- compliant industrial safety helmet is disclosed, comprising a hybrid energy harvesting system including CIGS solar cells and piezoelectric modules configured to provide continuous electrical power for autonomous operation. The helmet incorporates a multi- modal impact analysis module having triaxial accelerometers and strain gauges coupled with an edge-based machine learning classifier for real-time impact detection and severity assessment. An IoT connectivity framework comprising LoRaWAN, BLE mesh, and GSM CAT-M1 modules enables reliable communication and alert transmission. Integrated environmental sensors monitor hazardous parameters including methane, oxygen concentration, and particulate matter. Adaptive duty cycling optimizes power consumption and extends operational autonomy. The system supports local and remote alert generation, over-the-air firmware updates, and prioritized communication based on network availability. The helmet provides accurate impact grading, low-latency processing, continuous environmental monitoring, enhanced worker safety, and robust operation under harsh industrial conditions while maintaining compliance with industrial safety standards.
