Abstract: An electronic tactile crossword puzzle board (100), to be used by blind users, has a tile receiving grid (110) with cells (116) whose contact pads connect to row (112) and column (114) conductors of a shared resistive sensor matrix. Each letter tile (120) has two contact pads (124) joined through an encoding resistor (122), specific to that letter, and a blocking diode (128). A resistance measurement circuit (140) with a row driver (142), reference resistor (144), analog multiplexer (146) and analog-to- digital converter (148) scans the grid and sends resistance values to the controller (150). While solving, the user states a cell's coordinates once per clue via a microphone (160); the controller retrieves and speaks the clue via a speaker (164), then checks each letter of the answer word as placed and gives feedback.
