MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441097349 A) filed by Mahindra And Mahindra Limited on December 10, 2024, for An Electromagnetically Propelled Wheel Assembly For A Vehicle.

Inventors include Kumud Mittal; and Shankar Venugopal.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT AN ELECTROMAGNETICALLY PROPELLED WHEEL ASSEMBLY FOR A VEHICLE The present disclosure envisages an electromagnetically propelled wheel assembly (100) for a vehicle. The wheel assembly (100) comprises, a wheel (102) defined by a spherical rim (102A) and a tire (104) provided on the spherical rim (102A); a knuckle (106) extending from the vehicle chassis, the knuckle (106) is configured to receive the wheel (102); a plurality of ball bearings (108) provided on the knuckle (106), the bearings (108) are configured to abut the wheel (102); a first set of magnets (102B) provided on the spherical rim (102A); a second set of magnets (106C) provided on the knuckle (106). In a first operative configuration of the wheel assembly (100), the second set of magnets (106C) are selectively activated to produce a magnetic field to interact with the magnetic field of the first set of magnets (102B) and enable propulsion of the wheel (102) along a desired direction.
