Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an automated fruit quality assessment system and, more particularly, to a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based system for fruit identification and ripeness detection. The invention comprises an image acquisition module, an image preprocessing module, a CNN-based feature extraction module, and a classification module for simultaneously identifying fruit types and determining ripeness stages. The system automatically extracts features such as colour, texture, shape, and surface characteristics without requiring handcrafted feature engineering. The proposed invention provides improved classification accuracy, reduced computational complexity, and real-time performance, thereby minimizing human intervention and enabling efficient fruit quality assessment in agricultural and commercial applications.
