Abstract: The present disclosure provides an edge-native firmware apparatus (100) implemented in a low-power wireless mesh node (102) for cross-layer TSCH neighbour quarantine in a low-power wireless mesh network (200). The node (102) comprises a microcontroller unit (104), a radio frequency transceiver (108), a MAC-layer subsystem (110) maintaining a Time-Slotted Channel Hopping schedule matrix (114), and a routing-layer subsystem (126). The apparatus (100) includes a localized memory region (132) storing a per- neighbour cross-layer evidence array (134), a cross-layer evidence collection module (138), an anomaly evaluation module (146), and a TSCH quarantine module (152). The cross-layer evidence collection module (138) stores link-layer delivery evidence and forwarding-behaviour evidence associated with a neighbouring node (202). The anomaly evaluation module (146) determines a forwarding-anomaly condition when link-layer delivery evidence indicates delivery to the neighbouring node (202) while forwarding- behaviour evidence satisfies a forwarding-anomaly criterion, thereby classifying the neighbouring node (202) as a suspected anomalous neighbouring node (204). In response, the TSCH quarantine module (152) locally modifies the TSCH schedule matrix (114) by applying a quarantine mask (154) or executing a cell disabling, masking, or deletion routine (156), thereby placing a scheduled link associated with the suspected anomalous neighbouring node (204) into a quarantined scheduled link (226). The apparatus (100) may further include a radio sleep enforcement module (158), a route reconvergence trigger module (160) for routing through an alternate neighbouring node (206) toward a network root or gateway node (208), and a probationary revalidation module (162) using one or more low-duty-cycle verification cells (164).
