Abstract: AN EDGE-MOUNTED SURFACE DIGITIZATION SYSTEM The present invention relates to the Universal Edge-Mounted Surface Digitization System, which provides a method and system for converting handwritten input on ordinary planar surfaces into digital data- The system consists of infrared sensing modules mounted along the edges or comers of a writing surface, which generate an infrared detection field across the active writing area. When a user writes with a conventional pen, the pen tip interacts with the infrared signals, causing interruption or reflection that is detected by photodiode sensors. The detected signals are amplified and processed by a microcontroller to determine the position of the pen tip and calculate the corresponding writing coordinates. The digitized handwriting data is then transmitted to external devices through a communication interface for storage, display, or further processing. The system is capable of * operating on multiple surfaces such as paper, whiteboards, wood, plastic, and glass without requiring specialized writing instruments or dedicated touch-sensitive surfaces. The invention provides a cost-effective, portable, and scalable solution for real-time handwriting digitization in educational, professional, and interactive digital environments.he need
