Abstract: AN EDGE COMPUTING-BASED VISION SYSTEM FOR FIRE, SMOKE, SAFETY, AND INTRUSION DETECTION ON MARINE VESSELS The present invention relates to an edge computing-based vision system for monitoring safety and security aboard marine vessels. The system comprises a plurality of image- capturing devices positioned at one or more locations on a marine vessel and an edge-computing device operatively coupled thereto. The edge-computing device executes a multi-task computer-vision inference engine configured to analyse image data and detect fire, smoke, thermal anomalies, oil leakage, crew-safety incidents including man-overboard events and crew collapse, personal protective equipment non-compliance, and unauthorized intrusions into restricted areas or from external vessels. The system is configured to generate real-time local alerts without dependence on internet or satellite connectivity and to store event data for subsequent synchronization with a remote fleet management platform when connectivity is available. The modular architecture permits integration of additional detection functions, thereby enabling scalable, autonomous, and comprehensive monitoring for enhanced vessel safety, security, and operational management.
