Abstract: TITLE: AN ECO FRIENDLY METHOD FOR AZO DYE DEGRADATION APPLICANT: MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a method for degrading synthetic dyes in textile effluent, comprising: a. collecting fresh Coriandrum sativum (coriander) leaves, washing thoroughly to remove impurities, and subjecting the leaves to size reduction to obtain processed leaves; b. extracting the processed leaves using distilled water and filtering to obtain extract as filtrate; c. introducing the extract into dye-containing textile effluent at a predetermined concentration within a treatment reactor selected from a batch system, continuous flow unit, or modular treatment tank and maintaining operational conditions of pH, temperature, and contact time, with aeration or mild agitation to ensure uniform mixing thereby obtaining decolorized and detoxified effluent with reduced chemical oxygen demand (COD) and toxicity. The present invention also discloses a method for degrading synthetic dyes in textile effluent, prepared by the process as described above.
