MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a functionally engineered and biodegradable tongue cleaning device fabricated from processed coconut leaf midrib for oral hygiene maintenance. The device comprises a handle portion operatively connected to a scraping end configured for atraumatic tongue cleaning. The scraping end comprises dual smoothened edges and a microstructured scraping surface having fine grooves or ridges configured to improve removal of tongue coating, food debris, and microbial deposits. The scraping end further comprises an antimicrobial coating containing neem extract for enhanced hygiene. The coconut leaf midrib is processed through cleaning, controlled drying, and sterilization to obtain a stable and hygienic structure suitable for intraoral use. The device provides controlled flexibility, improved scraping efficiency, reduced risk of mucosal injury, and eco-friendly disposal. The invention thereby provides a standardized, biodegradable, cost-effective, and user-safe tongue cleaning device with improved oral hygiene performance.
