MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641079927 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology on June 29, 2026, for An Eco-Friendly Biodegradable Geotextile Material Developed From Pineapple Leaf Fibre (palf).

Inventor includes Gulshan Taj M.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a biodegradable geotextile material developed from pineapple leaf fibres extracted from Ananas comosus leaves for slope stabilization and soil reinforcement. Agricultural waste pineapple leaves are processed through cleaning, fibre extraction, washing, drying, optional alkaline treatment, and mat fabrication to produce woven or non-woven geotextile sheets. The developed PALF geotextile improves soil shear strength, bearing capacity, erosion resistance, and slope stability while allowing water infiltration and vegetation growth. The geotextile gradually biodegrades and enriches the soil, providing an eco- friendly alternative to synthetic polymer geotextiles. The invention supports sustainable geotechnical engineering, agricultural waste utilization, and environmentally responsible infrastructure development.
