Abstract: The present invention relates to an autonomous vehicle navigation system using adaptive multi-sensor fusion and real-time environmental confidence mapping. The system includes a plurality of heterogeneous vehicle-mounted sensors, a sensor interface layer, a sensor health and confidence assessment module, a multi-sensor fusion engine, an environmental confidence mapping module, a localization correction module, a path planning and vehicle control module, and a diagnostic and explainability module. The system dynamically evaluates reliability of sensor data received from cameras, radar sensors, light detection and ranging sensors, ultrasonic sensors, inertial measurement units, wheel odometry sensors, and satellite navigation receivers. A confidence-weighted fusion engine combines sensor outputs and generates an environmental confidence map representing detected objects, drivable areas, occluded regions, lane boundaries, road edges, and associated uncertainty values. The system resolves sensor conflicts, corrects vehicle localization during satellite signal degradation, and generates safe vehicle control commands based on confidence- aware trajectory planning.
