The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed herein is an automated vision-based system (100) for detecting driver alertness and drowsiness that comprises a Camera Unit 102 captures driver images, and a Processing Unit 104 processes the images using an Image Acquisition Module 106, a Pre-processing Module 108, a Feature Extraction Module 110, a Feature Analysis Module 112, a Feature Optimization Module 114, a Classification Module 116, and a Decision-Making Module 118. The system analyzes visual features including eye closure, blink rate, yawning, head pose, and facial expressions, and applies machine learning to classify driver alertness. An Alert Generation Unit 124 generates a warning upon detecting drowsiness or reduced alertness. A Memory Unit 122 stores instructions and model data, while a Communication Unit 126 and a Display Unit 128 communicate and present driver-state and warning information. The system enables continuous, non-intrusive driver monitoring.
