Abstract: A computer vision–based automated system for cost estimation of handloom products, wherein the cost parameters include yarn consumption, weave complexity, labor effort, and overall production cost. The system analyzes digital images of handloom fabrics to extract visual features such as warp–weft density, thread orientation, motif patterns, texture variation, and color distribution. A region- wise analysis of fabric areas including the body, border, and pallu is performed to accurately capture handloom-specific design characteristics. Based on the extracted features, a quantitative Weave Complexity Index is computed to assess weaving difficulty and skill requirements. The system estimates yarn consumption and predicts labor effort using predefined mapping and predictive models. The estimated material usage and labor effort are integrated to generate a comprehensive pre-production cost estimate. The invention minimizes reliance on manual expertise, reduces subjective errors, and provides a standardized and scalable solution for transparent pricing, efficient production planning, and fair-trade practices in the handloom textile industry.
