MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621041967 A) filed by Chanagala, Satyanarayana; and Khan, Z. J. on April 01, 2026, for An Automated Solar Panel Cleaning System.

Inventors include Dudhe, Neelima; Hiware, Rutuja S.; Ganasala, Naga Mani; Manda, Kavitha; and Madiwar, Prasanna.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an automated solar panel cleaning system. The system utilizes two light sensors, wherein a first sensor is positioned externally on the solar panel and a second sensor is positioned beneath the transparent panel surface. The sensors generate electrical signals proportional to incident light intensity, which are continuously monitored and compared by a microcontroller. A significant difference between the sensor outputs indicates dust accumulation on the panel surface. Upon detection, the controller automatically activates a cleaning mechanism comprising a water sprinkler and a mechanical wiper to remove dust and restore light transmittance. The cleaning operation continues until the sensor outputs converge within a predefined threshold, indicating effective cleaning, whereupon the cleaning mechanism is deactivated. The invention operates autonomously, minimizes manual maintenance, improves photovoltaic energy conversion efficiency, and reduces operational costs.
