Abstract: The present invention relates to an automated safety stopping system for escalators designed to enhance passenger safety by detecting hazardous obstructions in real time. The system integrates infrared (IR) sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and pressure sensors strategically placed along the escalator to identify foreign objects, loose clothing, abnormal vibrations, or pressure irregularities. Sensor data is processed by an ATmega328p microcontroller, which analyzes signal variations and instantly activates an emergency braking mechanism when a risk is detected. The braking unit performs smooth and controlled deceleration to prevent abrupt stops and passenger injury. LED indicators provide visual alerts for system status, while an automatic reset mechanism restores normal operation once the obstruction is cleared. The invention ensures continuous monitoring, low false detection rates, and rapid response within milliseconds. It is energy-efficient, compliant with international safety standards, and suitable for new installations or retrofitting existing escalators, offering a reliable and cost-effective safety enhancement.
