Abstract: Conventional specimen quality assessment during pre-analytical laboratory processes is predominantly manual, resulting in inconsistent inspection, increased specimen handling, and a higher likelihood of pre-analytical errors. The present disclosure provides an automated clinical specimen quality assessment system (100) comprising an imaging workstation (200) configured to acquire one or more images of a specimen input under controlled imaging conditions, and a processing unit (120) configured to determine a plurality of image-derived specimen quality parameters, integrate the determined parameters through a configurable decision-making framework (500), and generate an overall specimen quality assessment. The generated assessment is communicated to one or more laboratory information systems to facilitate specimen acceptance, rejection, or manual review. The disclosed system improves consistency, repeatability, and reliability of specimen quality assessment while reducing manual intervention and enhancing laboratory workflow efficiency.
