Abstract: Ensuring reliable and equitable access to safe drinking water remains a major challenge in rural areas despite the mandate of 55 Liters Per Capita per Day (LPCD) under the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Existing rural water supply systems largely depend on fixed-time pumping and manual valve operations, leading to unequal distribution, water wastage due to tank overflow and leakages, high electricity consumption, and lack of household-level consumption monitoring. This project proposes a Smart Automated Water Distribution System (SAWDS) that integrates household-level digital flow monitoring, automated valve control, centralized tank-level sensing, smart pump scheduling, low-power IoT communication, and solar-assisted pumping. The system enforces per-household daily water quotas based on real-time flow data, prevents overflow through closed-loop pump control, and optimizes energy usage using demand-based pumping and efficient motor control. The proposed solution aims to reduce water wastage, lower electricity consumption by 20–35%, ensure fair water allocation, and improve the reliability, transparency, and sustainability of rural water distribution systems.
