Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for automated evaluation of descriptive academic answers using retrieval- augmented generation and large language models. The system comprises a document ingestion module, a text processing and embedding module, a vector database, a retrieval module, and a large language model evaluation engine. The system receives reference documents, generates text segments, and converts the segments into vector embeddings stored in the vector database. Upon receiving a question and a corresponding student answer, the system generates a query embedding, retrieves relevant contextual segments, and evaluates the answer using a large language model. The evaluation produces a structured output comprising a score, grade, concepts, feedback, and a model answer. The invention applies to academic evaluation systems and enables scalable, consistent, and explainable assessment of descriptive answers.
